New Digital Care plan for Surgical Patients

Wellbeing Services County of North Karelia, Siun sote, has introduced its first digital care plan on the BeeHealthy platform as part of the treatment and service path for surgical patients, supporting 5000–6000 surgical patients per year.

Wellbeing Services County of North Karelia, Siun sote, has introduced its first digital care plan on the BeeHealthy platform as part of the treatment and service path for surgical patients. Serving a population of 160,000 in the public region, Siun sote’s digital care plan offers several benefits for both patients awaiting surgery and those preparing for it.

Patients who have been scheduled for surgery can access the digital care plan through the Siun sote application, where they can view preparation instructions and up-to-date information. The digital care plan provides instructions for preparing for surgery and information about the timing of the surgery. All essential information is available to the patient throughout the entire care process.

The digital care plan facilitates seamless communication between patients and the professionals involved in the care. Patients can send non-urgent messages directly to professionals without the need to queue on the phone or book a separate appointment. Professionals can monitor the progress of the treatment through the digital care plan and plan further actions accordingly. Additionally, they can also view any reported unsuitable surgery dates from the patient, as well as a checklist that the patient has completed regarding their preparation for surgery.

Currently, the digital care plan is in use for all patients in the surgery queue, except those going for eye or cesarean surgeries. Digital care plans can support about 5000–6000 surgical patients per year.

In the first two weeks since its launch, the care plan has been opened to 630 patients. Based on customer feedback, the care plan has been found useful, and interaction through it is perceived as smooth. Patients appreciate that the content of the care plan presents a cohesive overview, with all necessary information conveniently accessible in one place throughout their care journey.

Professionals have also found the construction of the care plan to be clear and easy to use. Communication with patients and, for example, sending attachments happen quickly and effortlessly, which enhances the treatment process and the professional’s work.

The enthusiasm of patients for the adoption of the care plan has positively surprised Siun sote. Over 3000 patients in the surgery queue were sent a text message informing them about the digital care plan and encouraging them to register in the Siun sote app. In two days, 850 responses were received.

– We are impressed by Siun sote’s great start in implementing digital care plans. This highlights the need for digital services in specialised medical care, too, and we are pleased that the platform’s care plans are suitable for many different customer needs. I look forward to Siun Sote’s future care plan projects and our collaboration in building them for the use of customers and professionals, says BeeHealthy’s Business designer Laura Oksala.

By the end of the year, Siun sote will also launch other digital care plans. Additionally, well-being related plans will be opened, which can help to independently promote one’s own well-being, such as nutrition.
