Gezond.nl, part of Arts en Zorg Group, transforming healthcare in the Netherlands with hybrid care using BeeHealthy’s digital platform – 75% of questions solved in digital channels, with 40% fewer physical appointments

The adoption of BeeHealthy’s digital platform led to a significant shift towards online patient care, reducing physical appointments and improving overall service efficiency and patient satisfaction in Dutch GP practices.

In February 2023, Dutch primary care organization Gezond.nl, part of Arts en Zorg Group, adopted the digital platform of Mehiläinen’s subsidiary, BeeHealthy. The results are outstanding: 75% of patient contacts are resolved through their Digital clinic using the BeeHealthy digital platform, driving a 40% reduction of physical appointments in local practices.

Arts en Zorg Group is the largest general practitioner (GP) group in the Netherlands, offering services to the public, as well as to various patient groups throughout the country, such as military personnel and asylum seekers. The company utilizes the BeeHealthy platform in its Gezond.nl GP service, serving patients nationwide.

Leveraging the BeeHealthy platform, Gezond.nl has established an efficient and innovative hybrid care model, where patients are treated in a timely manner in the channel best suited for them, contributing to improved continuity of care, higher patient satisfaction and future-proof GP care in the Netherlands.

– The results of our first year of collaboration are excellent. The service has been adopted effortlessly, and 75% of patient contacts are resolved online. The total number of contacts has not changed, only the form. This has led to a 40% decrease in visits at the local practices. This result is showing that we are succeeding in our ambition to contribute to a more future-proof care model, while maintaining quality of care, says Sanne van Duin, Director of Gezond.nl

Patient’s initial contact is made through the patient application, where care questions are directed to the centralized digital practice operated by online GP’s of Gezond.nl. Patients receive digital care when possible, and in-person visits when needed or preferred. The platform also allows patients to access their health data, including laboratory results and records. Lifestyle coaching is also being piloted.

– Patient satisfaction with Gezondn.nl is high, with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5. This emphasises how patients appreciate how they can speak directly to the GP via the app without an appointment – on average with just a two-minute wait time. The onlineGPs at Gezond.nl also appreciate the flexibility of their work, and the GP’s at the local practice, as myself, notice that they can spend more time on the patients who need it, adds Leontien Molenaar, Medical Director at Gezond.nl and general practitioner

Sanne van Duin also expresses her satisfaction with the relationship BeeHealthy and Gezond.nl have built, collaborating not only on technology, but also in sharing experiences in clinical best practices, and healthcare innovations across borders.

– We are impressed with the results Gezond.nl have achieved in their first year, which also validates the BeeHealthy platform’s value proposition in an excellent way. We are looking forward to a long-term relationship going forward, ends Oskari Eskola, CEO at BeeHealthy.

Gezond.nl aims to ensure future-proof GP care by leveraging digital tools across their offering and innovating with collaboration methods with their own practices and independent general practitioners.
